Growing up in a family of educators in the Upper Peninsula, I began my professional career as social studies teacher and coach in the Midland Bullock Creek School District.  In 1995, I was provided a fantastic opportunity to attend law school at very minimal cost. I accepted and graduated first in my class from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1998. Brown_Brochure_v4.bmp

Upon graduation, I joined the largest law firm in Midland as an associate attorney, specializing in litigation.  In 2005, I was promoted to full partner and equity owner of the firm.  While at the firm, I began to see a new and better way of practicing law - - where technology and innovation are leveraged to make the practice of law more efficient and satisfying for both attorneys and clients.

With this vision in mind, I struck out on my own and founded W. Jay Brown PLC in 2009. This decision has turned out to be the best one I’ve ever made.  I take great satisfaction in remaining true to my mission of leveraging technology to provide incredible value and customer service to my clients.

My practice is quite unique in that there are very few (if any) attorneys in the Mid-Michigan area who devote as large a percentage of their practice to area of business, commercial, construction and real estate litigation as I do.  I like what I do and think I do it very well.  I also think my clients often enjoy a tremendous advantage over their opponents.

Outside of work, much of my time revolves around my family and community.  I’ve been married to a wonderful woman for 23 years and have two teenaged daughters. Much of our time is spent attending the many sporting events my girls are involved in. I also like to golf, bike and have recently begun running half-marathons.

My community activities revolve around my home community of Freeland.  I have been on the school board for 11 years and serve as Vice President. I am likewise involved in the municipal government as the appointed President of the Downtown Development Authority.  Finally, I’m a director of the Freeland Community Sports Association, a non-profit organization that runs the Freeland Sports Zone.
